candy activity

I really enjoyed this activity. I think children would like this activity to because they get to work with candy. I think it was helped to start out with words children hear alot then read off words that are less common with the same ending. I love that I can apply all the activities we do in class to my future classroom.

I agree. I also feel that this is a creative way to get students thinking about everyday words and other words that are similar. It could also be done with names of toys or even popular movie/game characters that would catch their attention. I was wondering if there is an age appropriate activity that is similar and would work for older student?

I agree as well. I have also really enjoyed all of the other making words activities that we have done in class. These are activities that I can definitely use in my future classroom.

I agree. I really like the way this activity "disguises" learning. A day at school can be very long and seem repetitive. When you can get a child involved in an activity where they don't realize that they are learning because it is so fun, this is an excellent activity. I will definitely be able to refer to this in my own classroom.

I think this activity is a unique way for students to learn different words. It is helpful for the studnets because they are forced to think about the words differently!! It is a very fun activity that can be used in the classroom!

I agree with everyone. This activity was a good example of making learning fun. Using candy bars will really grab the students attention and make them want to do the activity. I also really like the other activities that we have been doing in class. I think that when I become a teacher I will be able to use some of these in my classroom.

I also really like the candy idea! I think it is something that is really exciting, which helps keep them engaged. I have also thought of other ways to use this activity, and I think you could easily change the candy bars to objects with brand names. If there was something big going on like the olympics, you could use sports equipment. I think doing this activity multiple times with completely different objects would keep the students on their toes!

I really liked the candy bar activity. It is a change from worksheets and straight lectures. It will help the kids realize that learning can come from everyday things and it doesn't have to be in the form of worksheets or tests. Seeing the candies would help the students get excited for the lesson that is coming up.

I agree with what everyone is saying about the candy activity. I think it is a great way to incorporate classroom activities with the everyday world. I hope that this activity will provide students with a tool to use outside of the classroom when determining how to spell a word, especially if it it sounds like something they are familiar with. I defiantly plan to use this in the classroom!

This was a great activity. I believe that it is a great way to help children become familiar and comfortable with phonics. I especially liked the fact that candy was used, this is a good way to grab students' attention. I think it'd be interesting use this as a daily routine in a classroom and use a different topic with different items everyday.

I also thought this activity was really great because it was a way for students to begin to group words into families. They also were able to look at a word and put it into a family and then also have to know how to spell the words to group them together. It gives the students a lot of practice.
