Below, you will find the schedule and groups for strategy instruction presentations. It is unfair to expect the same products from all groups given the unequal distribution of people within groups, so I'm going to amend the text set requirement. Rather than having a flat number of ten books you must have in your text set, you will need to have three books for every member of your presentation group. For example, if you are presenting alone, you will have to create a text set of three books that go with that strategy. If there are five people in your group, your group's text set will need to contain fifteen books to go with that strategy. Book sets are not due to be posted to the web until two weeks after your strategy presentation.

hey class!
I was reviewing the syllabus for this assignment and it said we needed to present a strategy for comprehension from the Harvey and Goudvis book. I was just wondering if this means we have to only use chapter six since it is all about comprehension, or if we can use other chapters that may also talk about comprehension? since the first group goes next week i thought this was important to clear up. have a good weekend!
Whitney
Whitney,
Good question. I think there are some pretty valuable strategies that are not listed in chapter six, so my best guess would be that you can use any of the chapters. I think as long as you can give good reasoning and have a strong strategy to back it up, you will be fine using a different strategy. Although, this is not certain! Hope everyone is doing well!! See you all on Monday!
Best,
Kristie!
Im sorry, this just came to my attention..Whitney what on earth were you doing on the computer at 7:20 this morning? I hope you were not starting to work on your homework!
Hey! I was looking at the strategy lessons for visualizing, and there are some really great ideas. I was just wondering (for my group) when we wanted to get started on our assignment. Have a great day!

My group and I started to work on our project and I found it to be very fun. It is exciting to finally be able to start lesson planning. I find it so much more fun to be able to do these lesson plans and get practice with them. Every lesson plan I write I feel more and more comfortable with.
Hey!! My group finished our project and it was a lot of fun and interesting. I like how we can teach a strategy that we found interesting in a chapter. We took ideas from the chapter and then added somethings that we also thought would be fun.
Okay so this has nothing to do with the strategy instruction presentations, but I was looking over the read aloud lesson plan and I am very confused. I get that we are supposed to plan reading a book aloud, but then what? I looked over the read aloud section in Strategies That Work and I am still confused on what to do. Help please?
I am still confused on the Read Aloud assignment too. I feel like I am over-thinking it too much. I am going to read my book with a boy who will soon be in kindergarten and figured I would try to start teaching him one of the standards for connecting the text to events in real life. I am just worried that his connections won't be "meaningful" the way Harvey and Goudvis talked about. I'm nervous! See you all tomorrow!
hello!
I am enjoying this text set project. I think it will be a great resource to have once we have our own classes. Projects like this seem to be the type of things that in a few years we will be glad we already compiled!

hey all, sorry this is so late but i had to work late and didnt totally spaced doing it before!! Anyways, I look forward to doing the text set and gaining some insight ito new resources. I does seem like a great future source to have and should be fun to work together. Good luck to the first group... See you all tomorrow :)

I think these presentations will be really helpful additions to the text book. It is always easier to see how other people use and interpret the ideas in the book!
I have learned so much from all of the presentations that we have gotten through so far in class. All of them have been so creative and useful. I am impressed with how much time and effort everyone has put into these presentations. I can really see that everyone is working hard to make them engaging and interesting. I have enjoyed having students in my class teach me what they have read and researched. I think it is a great idea to have us teach the class because it gives us experience and allows us to be creative.
